Just last week, Apple TV revealed that filming on Season 4 of its its sci-fi series Silo had wrapped. But the announcement came as we still await news when the show will return for its third season.
While Apple TV has yet to announce a release date, series star Rebecca Ferguson has now revealed a release window. Appearing on the TODAY show alongside Cillian Murphy to promote Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Ferguson was asked when fans can expect Season 3 of Silo to premiere.
"This summer," Ferguson revealed. "Are you excited?"
When pressed for more specifics, Ferguson continued, "I can't give you a date. I don't know. But it's in the summer, it's coming out."
Based on the Silo books by Hugh Howey, Seasons 1 and 2 largely adapt the 2011 novel Wool, focusing on life inside the underground silo and Juliette Nichols as she investigates a string of suspicious deaths that slowly uncover a much larger conspiracy. While an official synopsis for Season 3 has not yet been released, it is expected to draw from both Shift and Dust, the second and third books in the trilogy.
The reason for adapting both novels is likely to do with the fact that Shift is takes us hundreds of years in the past and explores how the silos were created and the people responsible for the project, some of whom we've already met in the shocking Season 2 finale. Dust, meanwhile, returns the focus to Juliette, bringing the timelines together and driving the story toward its larger resolution. Although Juliette appears only briefly in Shift, the show’s creators have confirmed she will remain a central character in Season 3, suggesting that elements of Dust may be incorporated into the next chapter of the series.
When asked what fans can expect from Season 3, Ferguson could not reveal specifics, but did promise the story continues to get better.
"I mean, it does get oddly better and better," she said. "I find it is unusual for shows to grow and sort of advance in the stories. I find they usually just kind of fall out, but this one gets better and better."
Silo is created by Emmy Award-nominated screenwriter Graham Yost, who also serves as showrunner. The series stars Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Robbins, Common, series newcomer Steve Zahn, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, Alexandria Riley, Shane McRae, Remmie Milner, Billy Postlethwaite, Rick Gomez, Clare Perkins, Caitlin Zoz, Tanya Moodie and Iain Glen.
One of Apple TV's stronger shows, both seasons of Silo have been met with critical acclaim as the series currently sits at an average of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
