There's a huge amount of intrigue surrounding Disney's upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, and some newly revealed promo art (via Toonado.com) highlights two of Aerial's aquatic pals.

Believe it or not, the fact Sebastian and Flounder have been reimagined doesn't sit well with some. We can appreciate both characters had distinct appearances in the 1989 classic animated feature, but Halle Bailey chatting with "live-action" cartoons would have run the risk of looking ridiculous.

Instead, as this is a live-action movie, the crab looks like a crab and the fish looks like a fish!

They've both been given human-like expressions (which should help when they talk and sing) and we'd say this is a suitable happy medium. Daveed Diggs and Jacob Tremblay are a couple of great casting picks, anyway, and both will likely be highlighted in the next trailer.

On that note, Disney has released a new official poster and announced that the long-awaited full trailer for The Little Mermaid will premiere during this Sunday's Academy Awards. It helps that Disney owns ABC, of course, but the movie must be one they're banking on being a huge hit if it's going to be showcased during the Oscars.

Needless to say, we'll have that trailer for you the second it splashes down this weekend.

In The Little Mermaid, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart.

She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

The movie stars singer and actress Halle Bailey as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, with Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.

Helmed by visionary filmmaker Rob Marshall, The Little Mermaid opens in theaters on May 26, 2023.
