Paramount+ has released the trailer and a new batch of images for the Season 1 finale of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Titled “Rubicon,” Episode 10 brings the inaugural season to a thrilling conclusion, and it looks like the series is going out with a bang.
The stakes have been steadily rising over the past few weeks, culminating in last week’s episode, “300th Night,” when Nus Braka finally revealed his grand plan. Following his daring space station heist, it was discovered that Braka had stolen Omega Particle, referred to here as Omega-47, a highly dangerous particle capable of destroying subspace. He then weaponized it into deployable mines and scattered them across Federation space.
With vast regions of the Federation effectively trapped behind this growing minefield, it’s up to Nahla Ake and the cadets aboard the USS Athena to stop Braka’s master plan before it’s too late.
Last week's episode also saw Caleb reunited with his mom. While the bulk of the trailer is focused on Nus Braka, we expect Anisha Mir to play a prominent role in the season finale. I also wouldn't rule out any sort of surprising twist involving Anisha's connection to Nus.
Episode 10 is written by Alex Kurtzman and Kirsten Beyer, from a story by Noga Landau and Gaia Violo. The official synopsis reads:
When an old enemy resurfaces as an existential threat to the Federation, Nahla must outwit a vengeful foe with a personal vendetta against her — as our cadets and instructors undertake a dangerous, seemingly impossible, mission to save everyone and everything they hold dear.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has already been renewed for a second season, with filming now complete, meaning this won’t be the last time fans see the Academy’s cadets. However, Paul Giamatti recently confirmed that he will not return for Season 2. That said, the door has been left open for the possible return of his character, Nus Braka, somewhere down the line.
Reception for the first season has been mixed. Critics have responded positively to the series, which currently holds an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but general audiences have been more divided, with the show sitting at 51% on the site’s audience score.
With Season 2 already wrapped, we hopefully won't have to wait too long before Star Trek: Starfleet Academy returns for class. Of course, before then, we do have Season 4 of Strange New Worlds to look forwadr to. Have you been enjoying Starfleet Academy so far?
